You are exploring Seeking Shalom because something is going on in your life or in the life of someone you care about. It might be obvious what is causing the problem and you just don't know how to deal with it or perhaps you see behaviors or feelings but are not certain where they are coming from. Now that you are ready to move ahead, we are looking forward to walking with you on your journey to wholeness and peace. While you do not have to know what is the best type of therapy to help you on that journey, here are descriptions of some of our types of counseling sessions. More information about each can be found by clicking on the links on the side.
Perhaps your issue is that things have not been going well in your life and you are depressed. You feel you need help coping with various stresses in your life. You will probably be looking at the most traditional form of counseling - individual counseling is when the individual meets one-on-one with the counselor.
Perhaps things have become really strained in your relationship as you and your partner have grown in different ways or your family has faced a stressful event such as an unexpected death. You will probably be looking at marital (or other couple) and/or family counseling when the counselor works with a couple (married or not) or a family unit to work on problems that exist among them and in their relationships.
Perhaps what you are facing is similar to other people that are coming to Seeking Shalom and working on the issues together would work for your issue. Then group counseling is when the counselor meets with a number of individuals at the same time and where there are common issues or problems that they are addressing.
EAP and SAP services are ones that your employer may have made available to you. Both of these are short term and designed to either solve simpler issue, refer you for longer term care or help monitor you as you do the work needed to get back to work.
Consultations and Supervision are available to other professionals. Consultations are available to mental health professionals about spirituality and spiritual issues within counseling. These professionals can also receive supervision. Consultations are also available to area religious leaders about mental health issues and the need for referral.
If something comes up and you are having an especially hard time dealing with it, then we are also available to have an appointment for crisis intervention. If this is the case, you can try to schedule an appointment using the calendar under the Appointment Calendar. If you need quicker service, please give us a call. If you cannot reach us and you are considered about being a danger to others or yourself, including if you are suicidal, please go to your local emergency room and ask for them to evaluate you.
